"America is at war over the nutritional health of our children.
Unfortunately, we're miserably losing that war. Parents are "too
busy" to make sure their children eat balanced nutritious meals.
Even more to the point, most parents don't have a clue what "eating
right" means. As a result, our children turn to TV commercials to
give them their nutritional education. This is not good! God bless
Ronald McDonald, but you don't want him teaching your kids nutrition.
The statistics below clearly demonstrate the negative impact that
the multi-billion dollar junk food and fast food industries are
having on the health of our children:
- 1 in 4 children in the US today is seriously overweight
- 40 million American children have abnormally high cholesterol
levels.
- By age 12, 70% of children have the beginning stages of hardening
of the arteries.
- Over the last 20 years the number of extremely overweight children
has nearly doubled, and the number of overweight children has
increased by more than 50%."

Another recent child nutrition and health study has also reported
some rather grim news:
THE PERCENTAGE OF CHILDREN BETWEEN 8 AND 16 YEARS OF AGE CONSIDERED
OBESE IN THE U.S. HAS DOUBLE IN LESS THAN 30 YEARS according to
a study published in the March 2001 Archives of Pediatric and Adolescent
Medicine.
The study found that:
- The more hours spent watching television, the more likely the
children were to be obese, with those watching 4 hours of TV daily
2.5 times more likely to be obese.
- The more time spent watching TV,the more calories consumed.
- The association betweenTV watching and overweight was stronger
in girls than in boys, probably because girls participate in less
exercise than boys.
- Sixty-five per cent of black children,53% of Hispanics, and
37% of whites watched more than three hours ofTV a day.
Del will share with your audience:
- Simple solutions and strategies for getting your children to
eat more fruits, vegetables and grains ·and less junk food.
- The important link between nutrition and learning.
- What should your kids be eating.
- HOW TO GET YOUR KIDS TO START CRAVING MORE FRUITS AND VEGETABLES!
Remember,
"A hundred years from now it will not matter what my bank account
was,
the sort of house I lived in, or the kind of car I drove, but the
world may be
different because I was important in the life of a child...."
